On November 20, 2014 at the 15th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, Paquito D’Rivera and Trio Corrente’s album Song for Maura won the Best Latin Jazz Album in category #31. The album tied for the GRAMMY with Chick Corea’s album The Vigil, which also won.
This is the first album Paquito D’Rivera has done with Trio Corrente. The Brazilian trio members are Fabio Torres (pianist), Paulo Paulelli (bassist), and Edu Ribeiro (drummer).
"…one of the Brazilian musical groups that most impressed me has been the marvelous Trio Corrente from Sao Paulo. … Our CD collaboration is my best homage to Brazil and at the same time, a love song to the memory of the beautiful Maura, my mother…" Paquito D’Rivera
The Latin GRAMMY Awards took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and were broadcasted on the Univision Network.
This is a second GRAMMY for the album, having previously been awarded the Best Latin Jazz Album at the 56th annual GRAMMY Awards on January 27, 2014.
