This new documentary, Paquito D’Rivera: From Carne y Frijol to Carnegie Hall!, traces the extraordinary life and career of acclaimed clarinetist, saxophonist, and composer Paquito D’Rivera – from his beginnings as a child prodigy in Cuba and his founding of the legendary band Irakere with Chucho Valdés at age 17, to his defection to the United States in 1980 and his emergence as an internationally celebrated ambassador of Latin jazz. D’Rivera has received 18 GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY Awards.
Written, produced, and directed by Juan Mandelbaum, the documentary is a co-production of Geovision, Inc., and Latino Public Broadcasting.
